SPOKEN WORDS, POEMS AND SONGS

Spoken words, poems, and songs has historically been an avenue for individuals to express their deepest thoughts and desires. Some used the form of spoken words and songs to liberate and free themselves from oppression and finding salvation within them. Currently, Youth are using the art of “Spoken Words” as a form of liberation and defining the world as they see it. Poetry/Spoken words has become an avenue for youth and young adults to express their fear, anger, desire, frustration, ambition and so many different emotions.

This Summer Voices of Tomorrow is bringing together 30 African/African American students to go through series of workshops that will allow youth and young adults to develop the art of spoken words in a form of poetry. They will discuss, explore and analyses different topics that impacts them daily. While at the same time building a new community of resilient young activists that will define themselves as “the new voices of liberation.”
